What makes a relationship work in today's standard of dating? The simple answer; love, naturally. What isn't so simple is a more common occurrence today; dating someone of the opposite sex who's age is either much older or younger than yours. Dating with such a large age gap is something that isn't out of the realm of believability. Relationships of this kind have been occurring for decades yet have become more and more prevalent in the last several years. However, do these types of relationships work? Or are there hidden motives behind the people who are involved? The answers to both of these questions posed are 'yes'. In my most honest opinion, true love can simply be attained with any two individuals, irregardless of age, gender, or race. The key to making these kinds of relationships work is the willingness to accept and look passed the fact that there will be others around you who most likely will not approve of the decision to love; love has the power to conquer any outside influences.
There cannot be a discussion about age differences without the man himself; Hugh Hefner. The 86 year old man seems to be getting married for his fourth time and has been in so many relationships that I wouldn't be surprised if he has lost track. Interestingly enough, one might suspect that the 20+ year olds he commits to are just going after his $40+ million estate. In fact, they aren't. They might be clueless idiots, but they know that although they aren't to receive a dime if they were to breakup or divorce, they would receive something much more valuable: fame. What's more priceless than that? Does one suspect that true love exists here? Any clueless idiot would see that it does not. If you ask me, Hugh Hefner is a genius. But what about other men in his position who aren't so fortunate?
These men could be self-made millionaires while having so a many women flocking to them. For what reason you may ask? Monetary reasons. A lot of women today are driven by financial stability. They know that if you marry a wealthy man, and there's no prenup signed, they're set! A year or two down the road, cash in and take that man to the cleaners; leaving that man miserable and washed up by having an unwanted commitment: a settlement that entitles him to pay her an amount monthy based on what he earns for a certain period of time. It's sad but this occurs all too often. It's become so common that the rates of divorce in this country is just over half; or in other words 5 divorces per 1,000 people. Just sick. When do you ever hear a man receiving a settlement from a woman on the dissolution of a marriage? Almost never. Men don't have the upper hand when it comes to the courts. Women, however, have that protection. Only the smart men actually have learned to avoid this altogether by staying single and keeping all of their belongings to one owner: themselves.
So we have established that there are at least three motives for dating someone who is much older: love, fame, and financial stability. Could there be another? In fact, there is, and it could be quite shocking to those who wouldn't be able to comprehend. Sex. Some couples who have huge age differences fall in love just because they do. However, some couples have a different type of relationship that would put aside any conflicts or headaches. This kind of a relationship is known as a NSA (no strings attached) relationship. Some older women enjoy getting together with younger men because men their age don't give them the satisfaction they truly need. On the contrary, younger men can also be into much older women for similar reasons. For whatever reason brought these two together, they know that what unites them is a passion that isn't easily obtained with just anyone.
This weeks blog seems to attack mainly women but it's much simpler to state the simple fact that each of these instances can occur if the roles were reversed. Being a guy, it's much easier to evaluate how I see and feel about things from my point of view. Furthermore, it's understood that not all men are angels either. My advice: Love is simple, take it for what it is regardless of the circumstances and the characteristics that are involved. Don't ever say it isn't possible. Take me for my word when I say it can work between two people if they set their heart to it. For those with negative motives, we all know it won't be easy to avoid you but all I can say is to those innocent individuals, be cautious.
Love shouldn't be what's in your wallet, what's in your pants, or using a person as a stepping stone to reaching a higher level of greatness. How do you find true love when there are so many detrimental obstacles that could possible ruin a person? Patience...
